I have suspected that the uninsured were scapegoats for flawed and grossly inefficient health care system and now I am confirmed.

I hope anyone who believes in blaming the uninsured for high-medical cost, might consider the fact that the uninsured are charged twice as much as insurance companies for the very same procedures, because most doctors and hospitals will not adjust the inflated price. Maybe if the uninsured were charged a fair price, they would be more likely to pay.

Even as Medicare did not affect mortality of the elderly, so too, health insurance for the uninsured will not affect mortality of the U.S. population. Mortality and other traditional measures of "health" are more responsive to air/water quality, food safety, and personal habits. If we want to measure the effects of our investment in healthcare, we should focus on metrics related to individual healthcare services, per se.
