Marcus Thygeson, MD, MPH is chief health officer at Blue Shield of California, a 4 million-member nonprofit health plan that serves the state’s commercial, individual and government markets. He oversees Prevention and Wellness Programs, Medical Services and Innovation, Medical Management, Clinical Quality, Pharmacy Benefits Management and Medical Policies. Dr. Thygeson has more than three decades of professional experience, including leadership roles in managed care settings since 1996 in the areas of medical management, medical policy, quality, accreditation and program management. Dr. Thygeson earned his M.D. at Harvard Medical School and M.P.H. at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from University of California, Davis.
